The Hearth

Creating wealth for the family is the first duty of the householder or the Grihasta. Since families start under a single roof, the concept of the family house or home begins with the building in which they live. This is the hearth. It may be leased accommodation or a self owned one. You may design it and build from the scratch or buy a ready built one.  It is a building that you want to convert into a home for your family. All movable property that is owned by the family is collected within the four walls of the house.  All interactions with the world begin and end here.  One may go out to work, but would like to return to a place called home. One may travel across the globe and meet scores of people, but would like to be with those whom we call family at the end of the journey.

So, it is but natural that the process of creating wealth for the family begins with the idea of investing in land or property for use of the family.  However, investing in property --whether by purchase of land or building--is a proposition that demands a lot of time and energy. The innumerable imponderables that emerge sometimes daunt you.  Where should you buy the property?  How big or small it should be? Should you buy land on which you build your house from the scratch?  Or should you buy a ready built house or a flat or a condo? Will the value of the property appreciate or will it stagnate?  Is the property located at a place where the facilities for daily living are accessible such as schools, hospitals, shops and entertainment centers? The questions are endless...The answers will have to be found, analyzed and the best ones picked up to suit your needs.

Sadly, all the information you need is not in one place. You have to wade through mountains of information before you can zone in one that you are looking for. Thereafter, the Pandora's box opens. There are any number of laws that will directly or indirectly affect your decisions. You will be buffeted by a variety of duties and taxes the texts of which are full of "Whereases" and "Neverthelesses" that make their meaning so obscure that they send you running in search of a lawyer.  The process of ensuring that the property is unencumbered and the titles are clear, is a nightmare that seems to be never ending. Then, the question of obtaining the necessary finances for your hearth becomes a peak you must scale.  You begin to worry about mortgages, interests and a host of other related issues. If that is resolved, you still have to get the property registered--that is a task that is a harrowing experience by itself!

Despite all this, your need to own the property--your own hearth--drives you and motivates you, to go on with the task.  If you are ready to take up this challenge, read on!
